You Never Know Who’s Listening

November 27, 2015

Let’s go back to 2015. In November of that year, Carnie Wilson stopped by on X to say she loved the verses on “Destiny” — especially when I hit those low notes.

If you don’t know the name, you know the bloodline. Carnie is the daughter of Brian Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys, and one-third of Wilson Phillips — the trio she formed with her sister Wendy and Chynna Phillips, behind “Hold On,” “Release Me,” and “You’re in Love.” She grew up around some of the greatest harmonies ever recorded, which is part of why this one stuck with me.

I told her I would love to have her on a track. She replied with a smile.

You never know who’s listening.
